The Game Census

Rating changes

Steam review-score transitions observed between census snapshots.

The census has tracked 2,685 review-score transitions since Aug 30, 2026 — 2,223 improvements and 462 declines across 2,575 games. The most recent: CELESTAY Craft&Slowlife moved from No user reviews to Very Positive on Oct 17, 2026. That is roughly 48 days of observation, and 1.0 transitions per affected game on average. Overall 83% of tracked transitions have been upward moves rather than downward ones, a split worth watching for whether Steam sentiment is trending up or down across the catalog as a whole rather than for any single game.

The most volatile title right now is WARDOGS, with 4 recorded rating transitions — more back-and-forth swings between Steam's review-score bands than any other game the census has seen, well above the 1.0-transition average across affected games.

A transition is recorded whenever the census re-checks a game's Steam review score and it differs from the last snapshot on file — Valve's own 1–9 sentiment band (Overwhelmingly Negative through Overwhelmingly Positive), not a raw percentage. An "improvement" moved to a higher-numbered band; a "decline" moved to a lower one. Because it only fires on a change, a game with a stable score never appears here even while it keeps accumulating reviews. See the methodology for how review snapshots and health verdicts are computed.
